Meet the Leviaseal

The Leviaseal is a predatory dragonesque seal. These guys will be hanging out in small groups on the rock ledges of out environment, occasionally diving into the fog to chase schools of fish that swim by. I was inspired by the images below of long-necked, long-tailed dragons, and wanted to give the creature’s face an almost feline look.

This guy below was one of the options I sculpted for the leviaseal. We ended up nixing him, because he didn’t have the ferocity we were trying to nail down.

This second option is what my team decided to go with.

After a bit more refinement on the sculpt.

We really love this sort of patterning on these concepts by Brynn Metheney, so they highly dictated how I handled the texturing on the leviaseal.

This is what the textures look like rendered in IRay in Substance Painter.

Here you can see I went back after texturing in Substance and did an anatomy pass on the leviaseal. I really want to nail down where the muscles lay so I can do a better pass the second time around.
