the albatross

The albatross bird, as portrayed in Samuel Coleridge’s epic poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, symbolizes the oppressive weight of guilt. With that in mind, I wanted to capture the way this burden can overcome one’s entire flesh, almost by way of transformation.

This grotesque metamorphosis is inspired a bit by the imagery of Miyazaki's films —especially Boy and the Heron.

A big thank you to the incredible Gio Nakpil for his guidance on this piece!
